With great sadness we let you know of the passing of Michael McLoughlin, 'Mikey' to all of us who worked with him at MurphyDevittStudios. Mikey is 1 of the 3 McLoughlin Brothers who had a long association with MurphyDevittStudios in the 60's 70's and 80's and with J.A.Devitt & Associate Studios after that. The McLoughlins were fabulous craftsmen and glaziers for MDS and in their own right working on many important stained glass projects.
I remember Mikey well, as long before Health & Safety forbade it, it would not be unusual to find a younger version of myself swinging freely from the high reaches of a scaffold rig on a church building site along side Mikey, and indeed Dermot, as he quietly and solidly worked away. Always steady, always calm and always watchful. My Health & Safety Training was a daily occurrence as Mikey would helpfully advise me ' Don't fall off here and kill yourself because yer dad won't be happy'. So I didn't.
Mikey was the most gentle man you could ever meet. He had eyes that really did twinkle, in every sense of the word. His work was always perfect. Never a corner cut. Always spot on.
My father thought very highly of, and was very fond the McLoughlin brothers, they were his close friends, It's a sentiment I share.
Mikey, God Bless, R.I.P.
